Zombie Poetry Project

An Experiment in Machine-Assisted Composition

We invite you to visit the Infection Site above to submit any English-language text into the open area provided. (Shorter texts or texts with frequent syntactic breaks work best!) Using a set of language tools, this victim text will be syntactically matched with sections of Mike Smith’s 500-line source poem, “Zombie Ride-Along,”  which was composed specifically for this project. Elements of the source poem will then “infect” the victim text,  producing a new “zombified” poem “draft” directly below the text box.

The process is intended to be dynamic, allowing you to refine the disease process by clicking on any part of the “draft” zombie poem. Once you’re satisfied with your victim, you can submit your zombie poem to the growing anthology archived on the site under Incidents.
